The House of Representatives has approved the proposal to consider the Nepal Citizenship (First Amendment) Bill, 2079 BS.
Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota presented the proposal in the meeting held on Friday.
Before that, during the discussion on the proposal to consider the bill, the parliamentarians emphasized that no Nepali citizen should be deprived of the right to obtain citizenship, and no non-Nepali should be allowed to obtain citizenship.
They said that after the Citizenship Bill is passed, the descendants who have not been able to get citizenship for a long time will get citizenship.
He drew the attention of the government to create an environment to obtain citizenship simply.
Responding to the questions raised by the MPs, Home Minister Balkrishna Khand said that if there are any problems with the bill, it can be amended.
He opined that the government has introduced the citizenship bill with the aim that no Nepalese citizen should become deprived of citizenship.
The government has stated that the new bill presented in the House will address the current citizenship problem, and millions of youths who are deprived of government services without getting citizenship, even though their parents are Nepali citizens, will get citizenship.
