Press release of Greater Nepal Nationalist Front on the issue of ending the tradition of conferring Nepal Army’s honorary rank of General to the Chief of Army Staff of India or conferring the same honor to the Chief of Army Staff of China Date: 2024 November 20
The Greater Nepal Nationalist Front has drawn serious attention to the news that Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi is coming on a 5-day visit to Nepal on November 20. The fact that he has been invited to be decorated with the Honorary General of the Nepal Army has been the main subject of our interest. Since India is a country bordering Nepal, the military relationship with that country has a special meaning, but the Nepal government should pay attention to the fact that between the two bordering countries, China and India, having special military relations with India alone is deemed to be a breach of friendship. All the Nepali people are curious to know what the compulsion is to adorn only the Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army with the General of the Nepal Army; therefore, the government should reveal the reason why it does not treat India and China equally in every matter of military relations. The point that needs to be decided in this regard is that either the commander-in-chief of Nepal and India should end the tradition of assuming the post of General of each other’s army, or the Head of the People’s Liberation Army of the People’s Republic of China should also be decorated with the General of the Nepal army. Only then will it be confirmed that Nepal has adopted a non-aligned foreign policy.
