Nepal took part in the SPP in 2019

Kathmandu, June 16

While there is a debate from the streets to the legislature that Nepal is likely to join the
US ‘State Partnership Program’ (SPP), the US claims that Nepal has already joined the program in 2019.

According to the US Embassy in Nepal, the US approved Nepal’s offer in 2019 after Nepal requested to participate in the program in 2015 and 2017. Nepal also joined the SPP at the same time. The United States is not promoting this initiative.

‘Nepal had proposed to take part on two separate occasions. ”That was accepted by the United States in 2019,” stated Manuel P. Mickler, the US Embassy’s Deputy Chief of Mission. The United States would not accept the offer but would accept it, according to a statement released by the US Embassy in Kathmandu on Tuesday. According to diplomatic sources, in 2015 and 2017, then-Chief of Army Staff Rajendra Chhetri wrote letters to the US requesting membership in the SPP.
