When asked for comments on media reports claiming that China is pressuring Iranian officials to avoid actions that could disrupt Qatar’s natural gas exports and other shipments passing through the Strait of Hormuz, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said on Tuesday at a regular press conference that energy security is of great importance to the global economy, and all parties have the responsibility to ensure stable and smooth energy supplies.

China urges all sides to immediately cease military operations, prevent further escalation of tensions, safeguard the safety of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, and avoid causing greater impacts on the global economy, the spokesperson said. GT
