Only men are the mayor of the eight municipalities of Lamjung

Kathmandu, May 26

In Lamjung district, all men have been elected to major positions at the eight local levels.

This includes the mayorships of four municipalities and the chairpersonships of four rural
municipalities.

Kulu Kumari Gurung was nominated for Mayor of Besisahar municipality in the local election
held on May 13 by the National Mongol Organization.

The representation of women in the top posts has fallen to zero after major parties including CPN-UML, Nepali Congress and CPN (Maoist Center) did not field women candidates for the major posts.

One woman was elected as mayor municipality and four deputy mayors in the district’s first
local election.
