New Map of Greater Nepal Unveiled

Kathmandu: The chairman of the Greater Nepal Nationalist Front, Phanindra Nepal, has released a new version of the Greater Nepal map through a press statement on April 5, 2026 (Chaitra 22, 2082 BS). According to him, although the map was prepared on March 4, it was made public only today due to various reasons. Recalling that the first Greater Nepal map was issued back in 2006 (2063 BS), he stated that the map has been revised over time based on different treaties and historical documents. He also claimed that the new map includes territories Nepal lost due to agreements such as the Treaty of Sugauli.

The Front has emphasized that the concept of Greater Nepal is not merely emotional but is grounded in historical and political realities. It also described certain recent developments as significant, including the unveiling of a mural related to Akhand Bharat in India’s new parliament building in 2023, after which Kathmandu Metropolitan City’s the then mayor Balen Shah displayed the Greater Nepal map in his office. Similarly, Rabi Lamichhane had also expressed support for the map in 2022. The Front believes that the current political situation has brought renewed attention to the issue of Greater Nepal, which it sees as a sign of hope.

Phanindra Nepal has urged journalists to help disseminate the map among the public and has also requested all constitutional bodies to study it. Calling for a review of the Indo-Nepal Treaty of 1950, he challenged authorities to take action against him if the map is proven incorrect. He noted that no formal dialogue has yet taken place with India and stated that reaching conclusions without discussion would be inappropriate. He also mentioned that the map has been made public through social media and expressed readiness to engage in discussions with relevant stakeholders if necessary. NPC
