Minister for Health and Population Birodh Khatiwada promoted Narayan Dhakal, the former
Director-General of the Department of Drug Management, to Head of the National Laboratory on January 11. Dhakal, however, has yet to return to the laboratory, despite the fact that it has been two months.
Minister Khatiwada had appointed Bharat Bhattarai the role of director-general of the
department by removing Dhakal. Dhakal has refused to accept the duty of the laboratory under the department, claiming that the head of the department has been entrusted to a junior to him.
The Department of Drug Management is the pharmaceutical industry’s regulating organization.
The quality, control, and monitoring of medications are the key functions of this department.
However, the department has been unable to perform well as a result of the post’s long tenure, which has lasted several years.
The department’s workers acknowledge that policy and administrative tasks could not be completed based on political access or following a change of administration.
