Kathmandu, December 27

In Afghanistan, women are not allowed to travel long and medium distances alone.

The Taliban say men should be accompanied when traveling long and medium distances.
According to the BBC, women are allowed to travel short distances alone, but now travel longand medium distances with relatives and male family members.

The report quoted a Taliban official as saying that a woman traveling with a long-distance
traveler would not be allowed to travel without a man. Now, for a journey of more than 72
kilometers, a woman has to carry a man with her.

The Taliban has also demanded that only women wearing burqas be allowed to travel in
vehicles. Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan, was captured by the Taliban on August 15 and is now under Taliban control. Human rights activists say the Taliban have promised to protect women’s and human rights as they return to power.
