Dev Gurung, a member of parliament for the CPN-Maoist Center, has stated his opinion that the government is preparing to conduct internal SPP negotiations.
Gurung expressed his concern that Sewa Lamsal, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, recently stated that the communication regarding the SPP’s inability to come to an agreement could not be done at this time during Thursday’s House of Representatives meeting.
Gurung expressed regret at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ recent statement that correspondence could only be conducted after discussion, advice, and consultation with various parties. He said that the Council of Ministers’ decision conflicted with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ statement. He wanted an order for the immediate sending of letters about SPP.
According to MP Gurung, discussions on an SPP agreement are taking place under the facets of a Status of Forces Agreement, SOFA, Strategic Defense Pact, and Mutual Defense Treaty.
He said, “It is the responsibility of the relevant ministries to implement the decision of the Council of Ministers.”But this choice is not being carried out by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. I, therefore, ask for permission to send correspondence about SPP right now. They are negotiating under new names while maintaining the terms of the military pact and other alternative names after stating that there would be no SPP agreement. Additionally, a project known as the Mutual Defense Crisis is in progress. Also being worked on is a Strategic Defense Pact. An agreement under the name Peace Cooperation Agreement is the subject of current efforts.
