CIAA makes 1,554 as defendants in FY 2080/081 BS

Kathmandu, Sept. 15:

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed 201 cases in the Special Court naming 1,554 individuals as the defendants on charge of corruption. The anti-graft body has claimed Rs 8.4 billion in penalty from the defendants.

Of the 201 cases, 58 cases are related to illegal benefits, 48 are about receiving bribe amounts, 34 about fake academic certificates, 33 about misappropriation of public properties, 13 about revenue leakage, 11 about illegal income and four others, according to the CIAA annual report of the fiscal year 2080/081 BS.

CIAA Chief Commissioner Prem Kumar Rai submitted the annual report to President Ramchandra Paudel amid a special function at the Office of the President on Sunday.
As stated in the CIAA annual report, it has delegated rights to chief district officers in 33 districts to carry out investigations on corruption charges.

According to the CIAA, it received 26,918 complaints from across the country through different mediums in the FY 2080/081 BS.
Of the complaints, the highest number of cases were from the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration (38.91 per cent) followed by the Ministry of Education (15.79 per cent).
