The State Management and Good Governance Committee of the House of Representatives approved the bill to amend the Nepal Police and State Police Operations Supervision and Relation Act, 2076 BS, during a meeting held at Singha Durbar on Thursday.
It was decided during the meeting to accept the amendment proposal to strengthen the valley’s security by adding measures in cooperation with the state police. The state police’s job, responsibilities, and authority would be exercised in the Kathmandu Valley, according to Article 10 of the proposed amendment, and the Nepal Police will also investigate any state police misconduct. In a similar manner, the Nepal Police will investigate violations involving immigration. The modification was brought up during the meeting, according to Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand, since the Kathmandu Valley must be held seriously responsible. He stated that the new administration had continued the modification that the former government had proposed. The law is now being put into effect, according to Minister Khand.
While UML and Nepali Congress MPs had expressed support for the change earlier in the day, UCPN-M lawmakers had argued that the state police’s authority should not be restricted when it comes to issues of security in the capital.
