Status of siren installed in Melamchi area examined

Kathmandu, June 20

A test has been carried out to know the status of an early warning system (siren) installed in the natural calamity-prone Melamchi area.

Last year, a test was conducted on the status of sirens installed in Talamarang, Melamchi Bazar, and Bahunepati Bazaar in order to put precautionary measures in place to check the possible risk during the monsoon season.

“It would help mitigate potential disaster risks during the monsoon season and reduce the loss of lives and properties,” Melamchi Municipality Environment Officer Sujan Dulal said.

Following last year’s devastating floods and landslides, Melamchi installed the siren-enabled
early warning system on its own investment. The system was put in place with the technical assistance of Ram Laxman Innovation Pvt Ltd.
