Protest against the rise in the cost of petroleum products

Kathmandu, June 20

A student group affiliated with the CPN-UML has organized a protest against the increase in
fuel prices. The agitation began around 12 a.m. on Sunday in response to a dramatic increase in the price of petroleum products. Since Monday morning, protesters have been demonstrating in Butwal.

Students demonstrate in front of the Butwal Campus against the price rise. According to Shesh Kanta Pokharel, chairperson of ANNFSU Rupendehi, the agitation would not cease till the government reverses the price rise. ANNFSU activists gathered on the road in front of the multi-purpose campus, shouting slogans, stopping traffic, and setting fire to tires.

Meanwhile, the ANNFSU Central Committee is planning a nationwide protest over the price
increase. The price of fuel has been raised by Rs 21 per liter by the Oil Corporation. Petrol has already reached a price of Rs 199 per liter. Petrol was formerly priced at Rs 178 per liter. Diesel prices have also risen by Rs 27 at a time. Diesel has already reached a price of Rs 192 per liter.
