Kathmandu, June 10
The United Nations Security Council has added five new members. Ecuador, Japan, Malta,
Mozambique, and Switzerland were all elected to the Security Council without opposition.
According to a secret ballot in the 193-member General Assembly, Ecuador received 190 votes, Malta 185, Japan 184, Mozambique 192, and Switzerland 187.
Many nations view the election to the 15-member Security Council as a significant achievement and success since it is simple to raise one’s voice on issues of world peace and security.
The conflict in Ukraine has become a global hot subject. The council conducted many meetings of diplomats and supporters from both nations after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February but failed to establish a peaceful settlement.
Syria and Yemen, Mali and Myanmar, as well as worldwide nuclear threats from North Korea
and Iran, are on the council’s agenda.
Extremist organizations like as Islamic State and Al Qaeda are posing difficulties and attacks to the council, which is finding it difficult to cope.
