Market monitoring: action taken on 1200 firms in 11 months

Kathmandu, June 10

During market monitoring, the Department of Commerce, Supplies, and Consumer Protection took action against 1201 businesses in the first 11 months of the current fiscal year. According to Lila Prasad Sharma, director-general of the department, a fine of Rs 5 million 86 thousand was collected as a result of the action.

So far, this fiscal year, Sharma has taken action against 1,201 businesses while monitoring
2,713 others. According to Sharma, 276 businesses had been shut down as of May 10. He said that the move netted him Rs. 1.6 million. According to him, 302 businesses contributed Rs.1.635 million in May.

In April 2022, 151 businesses were investigated and fined Rs. 2.14 million. According to
Director-General Sharma, a total of 1,979 businesses have been monitored, with a fine of Rs 9.75 million imposed until the end of March.

The monitoring is now focused on high-risk commodities, businesses, and industries connected to pricing, quality, and inventories, including essential consumer goods, according to the department.

According to Sharma, the department is monitoring itself as well as the Nepal Oil Corporation, the Department of Food Technology and Quality Control, the Department of Drug Management, the Department of Quality and Measurement, the Department of Environment, the Department of Health Services, and the District Administration Office.
