Pakistan’s investigation authority has requested authorization to detain Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif

Kathmandu, June 5

In a Rs 16 billion money laundering case, Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has petitioned the court to enable Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and his son, Punjab Chief Minister Hamza Shahbaz, to be arrested.

However, his temporary bail was extended until June 11 by the court. The matter had been
under investigation for a year and a half, according to the Sharif family’s lawyer, Mohammad Amjad Parvez, but the FIA had not yet been able to offer any evidence against him.

Both leaders of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) stepped out of court as they
started presenting their arguments to confirm bail in the money laundering case, according to Amjad Pervez.

All other parties must present their reasons at the next hearing, according to the court. The
next hearing is scheduled for June 11th.

The lawsuit was brought to court by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB). Prosecutor
Asadullah Malik demanded that witnesses be called to provide records linked to corruption
charges at the hearing.

The hearing has been delayed until June 20 after all of the arguments have been addressed. Shahbaz has been charged with the Ashiana housing issue, according to Geo TV.

In December 2021, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) filed a lawsuit against Shahbaz and Hamza in a special court for allegedly embezzling assets worth Rs 16 billion in a sugar scam.

In November 2020, the FIA filed a complaint against him under the Pakistan Penal Code, the Prevention of Corruption Act, and the Anti-Money Laundering Act, claiming that he violated the Pakistan Penal Code, the Prevention of Corruption Act, and the Anti-Money Laundering Act.
