Capital spending does not expand because of the economy’s basic framework: Dr. Rijal

Kathmandu, May 20

Dr. Minendra Rijal, a member of the Nepali Congress, has stated that the economy’s basic framework has worked due to a lack of capital spending.

In yesterday’s House of Representatives meeting, he expressed his views on the goals and principles of the Appropriation Bill, saying that stakeholders, lawmakers, and the Ministry of Finance should make significant efforts to reverse the trend of capital non-expenditure.

To decrease the impact of the balance of payments deficit, he added, food production should be raised within the nation, and clear policy measures for the promotion of industry and business, as well as private-public partnerships, should be formed.

He stated that the economy’s problems were not caused only by the present administration, and asked the public not to forget that the growth in foreign debt was caused by the previous UML-led government.

The impact of global pressures on the economy and inflation was stressed, Dr. Rijal. He stated that the budget implementation capacity is insufficient, but added that the issue is also due to a bad culture that involves putting concerns such as foundation stone, railways, ships, and watchtowers into the project computer without sufficient resources.

He asked them to stop their habit of blaming others for their problems. Dr. Rijal stated that the budget goals appear to be good at first look and that both the government and the opposition should take the economy seriously.
