Kathmandu, May 18
The ruling Nepali Congress (NC) has so far won the elections in 196 local units.
According to the results published as of noon Wednesday, NC has won the post of mayor in 56 municipalities and the post of chairperson in 140 rural municipalities of the country.
Similarly, NC is leading the elections in 60 municipalities and 29 rural municipalities as per the counting that is underway at present. Likewise, NC has also won 48 deputy mayor posts and 139 vice-chairperson posts.
The CPN-UML has won the post of mayor in 29 municipalities and the post of chairperson in 91 rural municipalities. The UML, which is also the main opposition party, is leading the vote count for the post of mayor in 45 municipalities and the post of chairperson in 30 rural municipalities.
So far, UML candidates have been elected deputy mayors in 33 municipalities and vice-
chairpersons in 89 rural municipalities.
The CPN (Maoist Center) candidates have won in total 85 local units- 11 municipalities and 74 rural municipalities. The party is currently leading the vote count in 13 municipalities and 14 rural municipalities. So far, the Maoist Center has secured victory in 16 deputy mayor posts and 77 vice-chairperson posts.
The CPN (Unified Socialist) has won in two rural municipalities. One of the five-party coalition partners, the CPN (Unified Socialist) is leading the vote count in eight local units. So far, the party’s candidates have won the post of chairperson in five rural municipalities.
