Sri Lanka is experiencing a diesel shortage as the country’s currency crisis worsens

Kathmandu, May 5

According to Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera, there is a diesel scarcity in Sri Lanka as a result of the country’s rising foreign exchange problem.

The Minister also told the House of Parliament that the country needs 4,000 metric tons of
diesel each day. The state-owned Ceylon Petroleum Corporation, on the other hand, is now
only exporting 1,000 to 1,500 metric tons per day.

He claimed that there was no petrol scarcity in the nation at the moment and that 3,000 metric tonnes of petrol were pumped out every day. On Wednesday night, he added, a ship carrying 40,000 metric tons of fuel arrived in Sri Lanka.

Since February, Sri Lanka has been experiencing a fuel scarcity, which has resulted in regular power failures. Sri Lanka’s Finance Minister Ali Sabri claimed on Wednesday that the country’s usable foreign reserves were less than $50 million.
