A hearing on a writ petition filed at the Supreme Court against the appointment of the new
Inspector General (IG) of Nepal Police is set to continue today as the hearing could not be
completed on Wednesday.
Joint spokesperson at the Supreme Court Devendra Dhakal said that the hearing on the case
will continue on Thursday.
Additional Inspector General (AIG) of Nepal Police Bishwaraj Pokharel had filed a writ petition
at the apex court on May 2 against the decision of the government to appoint Dhiraj Pratap
Singh as the new chief of Nepal Police.
In the petition, Pokharel demanded the government’s decision to promote his junior colleague
and appointed him instead to the position. A cabinet meeting held on May 1 had decided to
promote Singh to the post of Inspector General of Nepal Police. (RSS)
