Alcohol consumption and sale distribution will be prohibited in the election

Kathmandu, May 3

In Gorkha district, the sale, distribution, and consumption of alcoholic beverages will all be
prohibited ahead of the upcoming local elections. In light of the possible security scenario
during the election, an all-party conference called by the District Administration Office has
decided to restrict the consumption of alcohol in the district from May 8 to May 21.

The meeting on Monday agreed that hotels, restaurants, and other businesses will be allowed to operate in the district only from 7 a.m. to 9.30 p.m., according to Chief District Officer Shankar Hari Acharya. He stated that during the all-party meeting, an agreement was established not to hold programs at the same time, place, or in the same manner in order to avoid any actions that may disrupt peace and security during the election campaign.

The meeting also agreed to completely comply with the election code of conduct, conduct
inter-party publicity programs in a socially harmonious manner, and make appropriate
preparations with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry to avoid shortages of basic products and services during the election period.
