Let’s not use the #MeToo movement to defame the election campaign; instead, let’s seek legal redress: Sharma

Kathmandu, April 29

Former chairman of the Sancharika Group of Women Journalists, Nirmala Sharma, has warned against using the accusation of sexual harassment against Keshav Sthapit as a campaign fund.

Sharma even advised that she seek legal help for this.

”If I had gone for legal therapy, the decision would have been made by now,” Sharma posted on social media. The convict may have faced legal consequences. It is not, however, too late. Let’s have a look at the legal process. We’re all in this together, but don’t make it all about the election.”

She stated that it would be against the rule of conduct for one candidate to blame another
during the election by making numerous claims. She also advised responding to such claims with tolerance. ”One should be able to declare that after being accused, I am prepared to be punished if proven guilty.” ”Whether the candidate or the questioner is aggressive, no one should speak offensive comments,” she remarked. ”He needs to apologize.”

She said, ”However, in such discussions, the candidate is challenged about his dedication rather than the claims mentioned above. The discussion consists of thematic issues.” Allow the Election Commission to take notice of this. Allow the candidates to obey the code of behavior, and everyone else to do the same!”
