Kathmandu, April 26
The Ministry of Finance has had discussions with the Ministry of Communications and
Information Technology about the policy program and budget for Fiscal Year 079-80.
Finance Minister Janardhan Sharma Prabhakar, Communications and Information Technology Minister Gyanendra Bahadur Karki, Finance Secretary Madhu Kumar Marasini, Revenue Secretary Krishna Hari Puskar, Communications Secretary Dr. Baikuntha Aryal, and others were present.
The Ministry of Communications provided a presentation during the meeting on the challenges that need to be addressed in the policy program and budget. Following the presentation by the Ministry of Communications, Finance Minister Sharma requested that an action plan to modernize the postal service be developed and included in the next fiscal year’s budget.
”Let’s bring our postal service up to date.” ”We should not live in the old way, no matter how much progress the private sector has made,” he remarked. Aryal also stated that the postal service was managed in a traditional manner and that it needed to be improved.
Even after retiring the old staff and recruiting new manpower, Finance Minister Sharma stated that the postal service needed to be handled in a new way.
Post offices should be employed on e-commerce platforms, according to the Ministry of
Communications. Finance Minister Sharma advised finding suitable partners and bringing
programs and funding to a media plan to construct a film metropolis in Dolakha.
All government entities have also suggested making it necessary to subtract 3% of the amount spent for advertising and deposit the cash deducted in the Advertising Board’s fund. ”There would be no pressure on the budget allocation for public welfare advertisement if all offices make preparations to remove 3% of the money paid for the advertisement and deposit it in the advertisement board’s fund,” Communications Secretary Aryal stated.
Minister for Communications Gyanendra Bahadur Karki, speaking at the meeting, advised that the future budget should focus on economic growth by solely addressing concrete issues.
