Kathmandu, April 24

In Kathmandu, Melamchi water delivery has begun. On Sunday, Minister for Drinking Water and Sanitation Umakanta Chaudhary began distributing water from the Min Bhawan water tank in Kathmandu.

Water delivery has begun today from the tanks of Min Bhawan, Khumaltar, and Mahankal
Chaur, according to Prakash Rai, spokesman for Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited
(KUKL). He stated that Melamchi water will be distributed from all water tanks within a few
days.

He remarked, ”Distribution of 50 million liters of water has begun.” ”In Kathmandu, 150 million gallons of water are now supplied every day.”

Water was supplied this morning from 9 to 11 a.m., according to the Min Bhawan branch of
KUKL. Because no schedule has been established, it is unknown when the water will arrive.

KUKL branches will choose their own schedules and make the time of water delivery public,
according to Rai. Melamchi water will be distributed from water tanks at Anamnagar, Bansbari, Maharajgunj, Balaju, Khumaltar, Kirtipur, Thimi’s Tigeri, and Katunje in a few days.

170 million liters of Melamchi water would be supplied daily through 160,000 taps in a few
days. Melamchi water will be delivered to Melamchi taps that were tested last year, as well as other tested taps, while water will be sent to old taps in residences where new taps have not been built or tested.

Starting on April 11, 2021, the Melamchi tunnel was filled by pouring water into it.
