Kathmandu, April 13
Ambassador of South Korea to Nepal, Park Chong-suk, on Tuesday, paid a courtesy call on
Minister for Labor, Employment, and Social Security Krishna Kumar Shrestha at the ministry in Singha Durbar.
During the talks, they discussed relations and mutual interests between Nepal and South Korea, it has been said.
On the occasion, Minister Shrestha urged Ambassador Park to conclude the bilateral
memorandum of understanding (MoU) relating to the Employment Permit System (EPS)
between Nepal and South Korea that has been awaiting its renewal since 2020.
In response, Ambassador Park said the preparations needed in this regard were underway.
A total of 10,000 Nepali migrant workers, who have passed the special language tests for Korean employment under the EPS, are awaiting their flights to South Korea for their jobs there.
The minister also urged the ambassador to make arrangements for their departure to South Korea. He also asked him to increase quotas entitled to Nepal under the EPS.
In return, the ambassador said that the South Korean Government was positive about
increasing quotas under the EPS for Nepal.
