President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s invitation to join the government has been rejected by Sri Lanka’s opposition parties. ”There is a lack of food, gasoline, and medication in the country,” opposition organizations said, calling for the ailing PM to quit.

Until a full cabinet is established, the president has selected four ministers to ensure the
legitimacy and stability of parliament. The general public has been protesting against the
government, claiming that the administration has mismanaged the economic situation brought on by the foreign exchange crisis and the balance of payments problem. To keep the protests under control, the administration imposed a curfew. Ordinary citizens protested the economic crisis in front of the President’s mansion a few days ago.
