Electoral alliance not mandatory: General Secretary Sharma

General Secretary of Nepali Congress Bishwo Prakash Sharma has said the electoral alliance is not compulsory, but it could be forged based on local needs and aspirations of party leaders and cadres. He made the remarks during a meeting of cadres organized by the NC district committee on Wednesday.

“Local needs and aspirations are factors on whether to forge electoral alliances, rather than a compulsion for it,” he reiterated the decision of the party’s central committee. The alliance can be forged judiciously at the local level, Sharma underscored.

General Secretary Sharma argued that the decision on electoral alliance has been made to
ensure NC’s victory at most of the local levels. “At a time when debates have intensified on
which leader to pick for an electoral candidate and forge alliances, the decision would be taken by the party’s parliamentary board,” he informed the cadres.

Sharma shared the projection that if the NC increases its vote by 10 percent at 155 local levels and by five percent at 84 local levels where it saw drubbing last time, NC can emerge victorious in most of the local levels.

District president of the party Tirtha Lama informed that the party leaders and cadres in the district devoted themselves to the recent month-long door-to-door campaign by expanding and strengthening the organization. He shared the plan that NC would be victorious in all 13 local levels in the district.
