Kathmandu, March 30
Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba remarked that the coronavirus pandemic was causing issues in BIMSTEC member nations and that coordinated measures should be taken to deal with such epidemics and calamities in the future.
”BIMSTEC has a responsibility to play in better rehabilitation of the area from diseases and greater readiness to prevent any future calamities and disasters,” he said in a virtual speech from Kathmandu at the 5th BIMSTEC Summit in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
Millions of people in BIMSTEC member nations have died as a result of the Corona pandemic, and poverty and unemployment remain an issue, according to the report. Deuba went on to say that in order to recover from the pandemic, everyone must work together.
To deal with the pandemic, Prime Minister Deuba further stated that green, adaptable, and inclusive rehabilitation programs should be developed. He suggested that sufficient vaccination, investment in the health system, and social security systems be encouraged, as well as increased investment in physical and human capital and structural changes.
Deuba stated that the BIMSTEC area is also threatened by climate change and that strong measures should be done to combat it.
