79 political parties have registered with the Election Commission (EC) to run in the upcoming local election.
Only 79 of the 80 parties that applied for registration have been registered, according to EC
spokesperson Shaligram Sharma Poudel.
He stated that the EC did not register Rishi Kattel’s political party as it did not meet the requirements for party registration.
Supreme Court’s verdict on a name-related writ filed by Kattel had led to the dismissal of
erstwhile ruling Nepal Communist Party and made room for the ruling communist party’s legal split.
The EC had earlier requested that political parties looking to run in the next local election on May 13 complete a formal registration form.
