Kathmandu, March 3

On the occasion of Gyalpo Lhosar, the New Year 2149 Xu-Pho-Taklo, Prime Minister Sher
Bahadur Deuba wished all Sherpa brothers and sisters happiness, peace, good health, and
progress.

Since ancient times, the Nepali Buddhist and Himalayan Sherpa communities have celebrated Gyalpo Lhosar.

In a message, the Prime Minister stated that Nepal is a country rich in ethnic, linguistic,
religious, and cultural diversity, and that respect for that diversity by people of all castes and religions is the fundamental and unique identity of Nepal and Nepalis.

On September 13, 2007, the government adopted the International Labor Organization
Convention on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, and Prime Minister Deuba stated that the
government was committed to implementing the Convention.

He said that the government has always been active in protecting and promoting Nepali
religious and cultural festivals and traditions, as well as ensuring the rights of minorities and marginalized groups.

In the message, he also expressed his belief that the Sherpa community’s New Year 2149 BS will strengthen national unity by enhancing mutual harmony and brotherhood among Nepalis.
