Deuba-Prachanda Phone Conversation: Objection to Publication of Letter to MCC

Kathmandu, February 6

Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has had a telephone conversation with the leaders of the ruling CPN-Maoist Center.

After the letter sent by Prime Minister Deuba and Prachanda to the Millennium Challenge
Compact (MCC) and the reply letter sent by the US to Deuba and Prachanda became public, Prime Minister Deuba had a telephone conversation with UCPN (Maoist) Central Committee Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda and another leader Narayan Kaji Shrestha.

According to the leaders, leaders Prachanda and Shrestha objected to the Prime Minister’s letter to the MCC and the letter written by the MCC being made public. The Maoist leaders have asked Prime Minister Deuba, ”What happened to make the letter public now?” In reply, the questioner said that he did not make the letter public.

Online News had made public the letter sent by Prime Minister Deuba and Prachanda to MCC on Sunday morning. In the letter, both leaders asked for time to approve the MCC. The MCC had also sent a letter to Deuba and Prachanda asking them to implement the same letter. In the reply letter, it has been reminded that the time requested is running out.
