The moderna vaccine against corona virus has reached 1.6 million in Nepal.
Surendra Chaurasia, head of the supply branch under the Health Services Management
Division, said that 1.66 million moderna vaccines had arrived on Monday evening under the
Covax facility with the help of the World Bank.
The moderna vaccine will be given to children in the age group of 12 to 17 years. According to him, about 41.9 million vaccines have been delivered in Nepal so far.
Earlier, the government had vaccinated Moderna in 57 districts and Pfizer in three districts
(Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Lalitpur). The government has also decided to open the school for a four-day vaccination campaign from Magh 15.
As children between the ages of 12 and 17 have been vaccinated in 60 districts, the rest of the districts will now be vaccinated against moderna, said Sagar Dahal, head of the vaccination branch under the Family Welfare Division. Only a few of the 60 districts have a second dose left.
Now there are plans to vaccinate children in the remaining 17 districts,” said Dahal.
Children from Kavre, Chitwan, Sindhuli, Dadeldhura, Surkhet, Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari, Saptari, Dhanusha, Parsa, Kaski, Baglung, Rupandehi, Banke, Dang and Kailali will be vaccinated.
Similarly, the government is preparing to vaccinate children in the age group of 5 to 11 years. Chaurasia informed that the process has been started for purchasing Pfizer vaccine for children in the age group of 5 to 11 years.
“We have not been able to vaccinate children between the ages of five and 11. Now, the government plans to vaccinate them by purchasing them, ‘said Chaurasia.’ We have put forward a proposal to purchase 8.4 million vaccines. Discussions at various stages have moved forward.
According to him, children between the ages of 5 and 11 have to wait for some time for
vaccination.
