Kathmandu, January 25
The United States has placed its troops on high alert, saying Russia could invade Ukraine.
According to the Pentagon, about 8,500 troops ready for war have been placed on high alert.
The Pentagon’s press secretary, John Kirby, told the BBC that NATO would deploy troops on
high alert if it decided to activate the Rapid Reaction Force or any other new situation arose.
Russia has said it will not invade Ukraine, but about 100,000 Russian troops have been
deployed along the border. That is why the United States is on high alert, saying that Russia could invade Ukraine at any time.
US President Joe Biden on Monday held virtual talks with European allies following escalating Russia-Ukraine tensions. According to the BBC, after the talks, the western countries decided to adopt a similar strategy against Russia.
The talks were attended by the heads of government of the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy and Poland, as well as NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg.
NATO members Denmark, Spain, France and the Netherlands are preparing to send fighter jets and warships to Eastern Europe to bolster their defenses.
