The Election Commission has completed all the preparations for the election to be held on
Wednesday for 19 posts of National Assembly members. Spokesperson of the Election
Commission Shaligram Poudel informed that all preparations have been completed for the
election management including peace and security, health standards and construction of
polling stations and centers.
He said, “Apart from constructing general booths and holding all-party meetings in some places, all other preparations for election management including peace and security and health standards have been completed. The rest of the work will be completed today.”
Campaigning has been halted due to the start of the election silence period, and a team of
security personnel, election staff and health workers has been deployed. Voting will be held in eight polling stations and 14 centers in different states of the country from 9 am to 3 pm on Wednesday.
Elections for the vacant seats will be held on Falgun 20 as the term of eight members of the CPN (UML), four members of the CPN (Unified Socialist), four members of the CPN (Maoist Center) and three members of the Nepali Congress will expire. There is a provision that the election should be held 35 days before the expiration of the term of office of the member. Candidates from nine political parties representing the federal parliament are in the fray.
According to the commission, Nepali Congress, CPN (UML), CPN (Maoist Center), CPN (Unified Socialist), Rastriya Janamorcha, Loktantrik Samajwadi Party Nepal, Nepal Mazdoor Kisan Party, Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal and Rastriya Prajatantra Party have participated in the election.
There are 2,025 voters for the election, including members of the state assembly and the chief and deputy chief of the municipality. In the election, the votes of the members of the state assembly will be 48 and the votes of the chief and deputy chief of the municipality will be 18. There will be 1,493 local level voters and 532 state assembly voters in the election. Voters are expected to reach the polling stations and polling stations by this evening.
