The non-establishment group of the Nepali Congress has concluded that local elections should be held in Baishakh. A virtual meeting of other groups held on Monday concluded that the local level election cannot be moved or pushed in any vehicle and that the election should be held in Baishakh.
On the other hand, Nepali Congress President and Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba had a discussion with legal practitioners on Sunday regarding the local elections on behalf of the ruling coalition. During the discussion, the legal practitioners said that the constitution and the law related to the local level election were in conflict and suggested the government-affiliated coalition to amend the election law to postpone the local level election.
However, the establishment led by Dr. Shekhar Koirala of the ruling Nepali Congress and other parties have said that local level elections should be held in Baishakh, saying that President Deuba will not be able to take decisions alone without any discussion within the party.
Leader Arjun Narasimha KC, who participated in the meeting, said that the party had moved ahead without any discussion on important issues like election and the conclusion of the meeting was that local elections should be held in Baishakh.
