Kathmandu, January 25
Six people have been killed in clashes between football fans outside the stadium where the
Africa Cup of Nations is being played in Cameroon. Some have been injured.
Proponents of the case have been working to make the actual transcript of this statement
available online. According to sports officials, about 50,000 supporters were trying to enter the stadium. Meanwhile, local media reported that half a dozen people were killed and dozens injured in an accident near the main gate.
The stadium has a capacity of 60,000 spectators. But following the Covid protocol, it was not possible to keep more than 80 percent of the audience.
Speaking to the Associated Press, the governor of Cameroon’s central region said the death toll could rise. According to media reports, some children have fainted in the incident.
The African Football Confederation said in a statement that it was investigating the incident. The organizers have won the game 2-1.
