Chinese fighter jets in Taiwan’s airspace shortly after US and Japanese demonstrations

China has sent 39 fighter jets to Taiwan’s Air Safety Identification Zone (ADIG), Taiwan’s
defense minister has claimed. China sent fighter jets the day after the United States and Japan held a joint naval exercise in the Philippine Sea.

The Philippine Sea is part of the Pacific Ocean east of Taiwan. It lies between the US-controlled Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands. The US and Japan demonstrations included two US aircraft carriers, two assault ships, a Japanese helicopter destroyer and five destroyers.

Meanwhile, Chinese fighter jets include 24 J-16 fighter jets, 10 J-10 fighter jets, Y-9 aircraft, two Y-8 aircraft and one H-6 bomber, according to Taiwan’s Defense Ministry. The ministry said Chinese ships entered its airspace in October last year. Earlier, on October 4 last year, China had sent 56 fighter jets to the region.
