The Hanumandhoka Durbar Museum Development Committee has postponed the photo
exhibition on the ground floor of Gaddi Baitak from this week to the establishment of
democracy. The committee was preparing to display in the exhibition a copy of the documents used by Prithvi Narayan Shah in the Nepal Unification Campaign from the second week of Magh, as well as photographs of various events in the establishment and restoration of democracy.
The government had decided to close all the museums in the capital from last Friday night as the transition to Corona with new variants was intensifying. As the museum is also closed, the exhibition of materials ranging from unification to democracy has been postponed until further notice, said Sandeep Khanal, head of the office at Hanumandhoka Durbar Care Center.
The office was preparing to open the Gaddi Baitak to the public along with this exhibition. The office had prepared tickets for the museum entrance to attend special exhibitions and cushion meetings. A few days before the earthquake of 2072 BS, the Gaddi Baithak Hall was opened to the public. The office was preparing to reopen the seat, which was closed after the earthquake.
As long as Prithvi Bir Bikram Shah was king, the throne was used to welcome distinguished
foreign guests and to present certificates of office. After the relocation of the royal palace to Narayanhiti, Gaddi Baitak was used as a place for the Indra Jatra to be attended by the
President, the Head of Government and other distinguished persons. The ground floor under the cushion was used as a place for drivers and security personnel to stay.
