Meeting of the five-party coordination committee is being held today

Kathmandu, January 21

A meeting of the five-party coordination committee is being held today to discuss issues
including local level elections. The meeting will be held at the PM’s residence in Baluwatar at 4 pm, according to the PM’s Secretariat.

The meeting, scheduled for Thursday, was postponed due to lack of preparation.
After a discussion between Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, Chairman of the Maoist Center Prachanda and Chairman of the CPN-Unified Socialist Madhav Kumar Nepal on Thursday evening, the meeting is scheduled to be held today.

Earlier, in a meeting of the committee held on Tuesday, UCPN (M) Central Chairman Prachanda had proposed to hold parliamentary elections in Baishak and local elections in Kartik. Leaders of the ruling coalition have not reached an agreement on Prachanda’s proposal.

The Election Commission has suggested the government to hold the next local elections in
Baishak as per the constitution. But the ruling coalition has not yet agreed on holding
parliamentary or local elections.
