Why was the meeting of the five-party coordination committee postponed?

Meeting of the ruling coalition’s high-level political coordination committee has been
postponed. A meeting convened at 4 pm today at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar to discuss the date of local elections has been postponed. According to a source, the meeting was postponed due to disagreement in the ruling coalition over holding local elections before the House of Representatives.

Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has proposed holding local elections, while CPN (Maoist
Centre) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal is in favor of holding elections to the House of
Representatives.

Tuesday’s coordination committee meeting was to discuss the issue with top leaders on
Wednesday to form a consensus. But in the meantime, there was no discussion among the top five leaders. But today, Baluwatar has postponed the meeting due to the busy schedule of the Prime Minister.

Committee Coordinator Ram Chandra Poudel’s personal secretary Chiranjeevi Adhikari
informed that the meeting was postponed due to the arrangements made by the Prime
Minister.
