WHO suggests to be wary of Omicron variant

Director General of the World Health Organization Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus says it
would not be right to take the new variant of the Covid-19 as normal. At a regular press
conference in Geneva, Ghebreyesus urged the world community not to ignore the fact that the Omicron variant produces a less complex type of covid than the previous Delta. Although Omicron may be less lethal than other variants, it should not be ignored, he suggests.

Ghebreyesus said the health center was overcrowded with people being hospitalized and dying because of Omicron. He said that with the unnatural growth of Omicron around the world, new variants could be seen, adding that there was no immediate end to the Covid epidemic and that it needed to be monitored and evaluated.

Omicron added 18 million new infections worldwide in the past week, adding that non-
vaccinated people are at high risk of serious infections and death. With the spread of the
Omicron variant, the number of daily infections in Europe and Asia has skyrocketed.
