The ruling parties are set to hold discussions in their respective parties to fix the date of local elections. At a meeting of the High-Level Political Coordination Committee held at the PM’s residence in Baluwatar on Tuesday, all the leaders of the coalition agreed that the election should be held in accordance with the constitution.
CPN-Maoist Center leader Dev Gurung said that the meeting on Tuesday discussed the
upcoming National Assembly election and local elections. All parties have agreed that there is no alternative to holding the National Assembly elections in full compliance with health and safety standards. “There is no doubt that elections to the National Assembly should be held by maintaining health standards and distance. The election should be held even if there is a transition in Corona,” said Gurung.
Similarly, during the discussion on local elections, all the parties agreed that the election should be held in accordance with the constitution but said that it would be concluded by discussing the date. “It is up to the Council of Ministers to decide the date of the election. He does that work. But the commission has also recommended a date. He has done it in his own way. Taking that into consideration, the committee suggests finalizing the date after discussions between the parties,” said Gurung after the meeting.
