At least 26 people have been killed in an earthquake in western Afghanistan. A magnitude 5.3 earthquake on Monday damaged hundreds of homes in the western Baghdad province
bordering Turkmenistan, according to Al Jazeera.
A provincial spokesman told news agencies that the victims had died when the roof of a
damaged house collapsed in the province’s Kadis district. Of the 26 people killed in the quake, five were women and four were children, the spokesman said. A second quake measuring 4.9 on the Richter scale shook the region two hours after the first.
A senior official at the Ministry of Emergency Situations confirmed the death toll and said more than 7,000 homes had been damaged. The quake also affected residents of Mukar district in the province, but details are yet to come, he said.
