Kathmandu, January 18
The cabinet meeting has amended the Prime Minister’s Employment Program Operation Guideline-2075 BS. The directive has been amended to make the wages of those working in the projects run under the program up to date and to make insurance of workers compulsory.
Earlier, the minimum wage was fixed at Rs 13,000 per month, but now it has reached a
minimum of Rs 15,000.
According to Loknath Bhusal, undersecretary of the Prime Minister’s Employment Program, a minimum of Rs577. Earlier, the wage rate was Rs 517. Accordingly, the workers will now get a daily wage of Rs 60 more.
While doing so, the government will provide insurance for accidents in the workplace. Under the program, insurance is mandatory for workers and their families to minimize the risk and damage of workplace accidents.
So far, seven lakh 8 thousand 42 workers have been enrolled in the program. Of them, 371,000 are males and 337,000 are females. The program aims to provide at least 100 days of employment to 200,000 workers this year. So far, only 6718 people have got jobs under the program.
A total of 11,609 projects are being prepared under the program at a cost of Rs 5.37 billion
across the country. This year, the federal government is sending Rs 12.3 billion to the local level for the program.
However, only Rs 330 million has been spent so far. Most of the budget of this program is spent on road projects in the month of Asar.
