Coalition agrees to hold local elections in Baishakh

The meeting of the high-level political coordination committee formed by the ruling coalition has ended. A meeting held at the Prime Minister’s official residence (Baluwatar) has discussed about the local elections. Leaders of all the parties participating in the meeting have agreed to hold local elections on time as per the constitution.

“It is understood that all the parties have agreed to hold the elections on time as per the
constitution. It has been decided to hold another meeting on Thursday to resolve some
technical issues,” said Ramesh Malla, personal secretary to the ruling party CPN-Maoist Central Committee Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda.

In the political coordination committee formed under the coordination of senior Congress
leader Ram Chandra Poudel to assist in running the government, Krishna Prasad Sitaula of the Nepali Congress, Chairman Prachanda and leader Narayan Kaji Shrestha from the Maoist Center, Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal from the Unified Socialists and Chairman of the Janata Samajwadi Party Upendra Yadav are members. Rastriya Janamorcha chairperson Chitra Bahadur KC and Durga Poudel are also members of the committee.
