Kathmandu, January 16

A youth group has protested in front of the house of Chief Minister Lal Babu Raut demanding to make Birgunj the permanent capital of Province-2. They staged a demonstration in front of the Chief Minister’s residence at Tejarath Tol in Birgunj-13 on Sunday morning carrying placards with slogans.

Participants in the demonstration carried play cards with slogans such as ”Maintain Birgunj Capital, Chief Minister is not needed, Birgunj cannot be sold”. The youths gathered from different places of Parsa district have demanded that the Chief Minister should play a role in making Birgunj the capital of Province-2. They have accused the Chief Minister of insulting public opinion by remaining silent on the need to lobby for making Birgunj the capital.

They have warned to retaliate if Birgunj is not made the capital. He said that Chief Minister Raut was going to vote for Janakpur by betraying Birgunj to secure his post.

Sujit Giri, a youth leader, said that they had protested against Chief Minister Raut’s attempt to make Janakpur the capital forgetting the contribution made by the people of Birgunj in the Madhes movement.

”If there is a movement, they will remember Birgunj. They will forget when given the
opportunity,” he said. ”Even the Chief Minister has forgotten the contribution of the people of Birgunj.

They have argued that Birgunj has supported the Madhesi movement in the repeated protests and that Birgunj is a suitable place for the capital in every way.
