Kathmandu, January 16
The National Archives has started listing the documents of former King Birendra Shah in two rooms of Sreesadan of Narayanhiti Durbar Museum. Document listing has been started by appointing two retired employees and three outsiders on contract from the archives.
An employee of the museum is also involved in listing the documents. The listing has been
started since last fiscal year. So far, 1,275 documents of birth anniversary, enthronement,
medals and decorations have been found, said Archives Officer Rajju Hada. Sreesadan has long been the private residence of former King Birendra.
Two thousand 268 documents related to treatment, petitions, visits, celebrations, reports and embassies have been listed. A total of 1,303 documents including political activities, ascension, guthi land compensation and receipts have been found. One thousand 887 documents of employee’s post, resignation, appointment, personal details and bank statement have been listed.
While documenting the two-room documents, 656 books in Nepali language and 865 books in English language were found. Work is underway to list the books and documents in four
sections. Archive Officer Hada said that discussions are underway on whether to keep
Narayanhiti safe or bring it to the archives after the archiving is completed.
