Chief of Bagmati Pradesh Yadav Chandra Sharma has said that safe structures should be
constructed to avoid seismic risk. Issuing a message on the occasion of the 24th National
Earthquake Safety Day on Sunday, they have also expressed their condolences to the victims of the earthquake.
Referring to the commemoration of this day in memory of the tragic earthquake of 2 Magh
1990, he said that the reconstruction work was nearing completion after the earthquake of 12 Baishakh 2072. “I would like to thank all parties involved in the reconstruction and
rehabilitation of the structures damaged by the earthquake and for their support,” Sharma said.
Considering the fact that Nepal is ranked 11th in terms of seismic risk, Sharma also expressed the belief that full adherence to the code of conduct in infrastructure construction would help reduce the loss of life and property. He said in the message, “I would like to urge the people to create an environment where the necessary measures are taken to minimize the damage caused by the earthquake without limiting it to formalities. I wish this day to inspire everyone to remain vigilant and safe.”
