The main tunnel (breakthrough) of the Super Dordi ‘B’ hydropower project under construction has been dug in the hilly district of Lamjung. The 54-megawatt project under construction in Dhodeni of Dordi village municipality-6 has broken through the main tunnel of 5.1 km.

The main tunnel of the project being constructed by People Hydropower Company has
succeeded in breaking through despite the effects of earthquake, blockade and lockdown.
Keshav Bahadur Rayamajhi, managing director of the company, said that the main tunnel of the project was successfully broken through a few days ago. He said, ”We have completed the tunneling work. This is a great achievement. Now that the demolition work has started, the target is to complete the tunnel within the next four months.”

According to Rayamajhi, managing director of the project, the project will generate electricity within the next seven to eight months. According to him, the construction of this project is 85 percent complete so far. The project has stated that the civil structure of the power house is being constructed and equipment is being connected.

Schedule to generate electricity within next June

Similarly, the dam site area of the project, which was damaged by the floods and landslides in Dordikhola last July, is being reconstructed. One thousand 100 meters of penstock pipe is being connected. Rayamajhi, managing director of the project, said, ”We have completed all the construction and will generate electricity within this month, but for various reasons, there is a schedule to generate electricity within the coming June.”

Excavation of 227 meters vertical pipe (vertical soft) of the project with a total investment of Rs. 8 billion 800 million has been completed. Construction work is underway inside the
electromechanical, tunnel and powerhouse.

The construction of the project was started in Asoj, 2072 BS by signing a power purchase
agreement (PPA) in 2071 BS.

The project has a total of 500 employees. After the construction was not completed in 2075 BS, the construction period was extended till 2077 BS. There was an agreement to complete the construction by Asar 2078 BS due to delay in construction even in that period. The project had stated that it would generate electricity within the month of Poush as construction was not completed at that time.

According to him, nine banks led by Sanima Bank have invested in the project. Construction is being done on 70 percent loan investment and the rest on promotion investment. District residents of the affected areas alone have invested Rs. 270 million in the project. The project has agreed to purchase electricity at Rs 8.40 paisa in dry season and Rs 4.80 paisa in monsoon season.

Based on the flow of water, the project will have a total grosshead of 640 meters and will
generate about 315 million units of electricity annually.
