‘Omicron infected people are less likely to be treated in hospital than other variants’

Kathmandu, December 24

A study has shown that people infected with the new Omicron variant of the Covid-19 need to go to the hospital for treatment 50 to 70 percent less than other variants.

A study by the UK’s Health Security Agency found that Omicron infected people were 50 to 70 per cent less likely to be hospitalized than their predecessors.

However, the study also found that after 10 weeks of the booster dose, the vaccine’s ability to protect people from omicron infection began to decline.

The study analyzed the status of both Delta and Omicron variants in the UK since November, including 132 infected with Omicron hospitalized. According to the study, the number of people infected with Omicron has to be taken to the emergency department of the hospital by 31 to 45 percent.

The health protection body called the findings “encouraging”. However, the body says that a large number of people may come to the hospital due to Omicron.

Meanwhile, British Health Minister Sajid Javid said he was in a hurry to determine the next
steps. He said the initial facts were “promising” and that the government was looking into the matter.

However, although the symptoms of Omicron are normal, they are more likely to increase the pressure in the hospital due to the rapid spread.

In recent times, the number of daily infections of Covid-19 in the UK has skyrocketed. A total of 119,789 new infections were reported and 147 people died on Thursday.
